Director of National Intelligence Briefs Congressman Rothman

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, Congressman Steve Rothman, a member of the House Appropriations Defense and Foreign Operations Subcommittees, was briefed by Admiral Dennis C. Blair, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), on America’s national security threats, both foreign and domestic. The DNI is the highest ranking intelligence officer in the U.S. and is head of the intelligence community, which includes the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Departments of Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, Justice, State, and Treasury. Additionally, Admiral Blair acts as the principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council for intelligence matters related to the national security.

Michael E. Leiter, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), who grew up in Englewood, NJ, also met with the Congressman and briefed him on the domestic security situation. NCTC’s mission is to lead our nation’s effort to combat terrorism by analyzing threat data, sharing that information with U.S. intelligence and law enforcement services, and integrating all instruments of U.S. national power to ensure unity of effort.
