Congressman Rothman Honors Cliffside Park Student for Work on the Human Nervous System On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, Congressman Steve Rothman congratulated Aakash Shah, an undergraduate student attending Ursinus College from Cliffside Park, NJ, for his work in protein research. Aakash was in Washington, DC because he was selected in a prestigious national competition sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research. He is specifically investigating the role of the protein PAM-1 in the nematode nervous system which could potentially play a therapeutic role in treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s, and Parkinson’s. Aakash has been accepted to Harvard Medical School and will begin his medical studies there in the fall.

“I am so very proud of Aakash for his cutting edge work in this field and the honor he has brought to himself, his family, Cliffside Park, and the entire state of New Jersey. His work may one day lead to a greater quality of life and longevity for those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases,” said Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ).
