(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act, a landmark bill that significantly improves the lives of veterans. “This historic legislation makes dramatic improvements to the care of our nation’s veterans, including extending mental health benefits to all members of the armed forces and expanding coverage to female veterans, rural patients, the under-served, and caregivers. Our veterans have waited for far too long for this type of care and these types of benefits,” said Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ).

“I believe we must keep the promises we make to our veterans. They have more than earned access to quality health care and other social services when they return home,” said Congressman Rothman.

“This legislation demonstrates America’s commitment to the needs of not only our veterans, but their families as well,” said Congressman Rothman.  “For the first time, we will provide essential and well-deserved support services to caregivers. This will include counseling, mental health services, and a stipend for caregivers living with severely wounded veterans.”
