Washington, DC – In a ceremony organized by the Council for Art Education in the Members Room of the Thomas Jefferson Building in the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) joined with Cyani Rodriguez, a 4th grader from Hackensack’s Nellie K. Parker School, and her mother, Cynthia Rohde, on March 25, 2010 to celebrate her selection as the New Jersey winner of the national state flag design competition.

“I am so very proud of Cyani. She created a beautiful flag design and has brought great honor to herself, Hackensack, and the entire state of New Jersey,” said Congressman Rothman.

As a student at one of Hackensack’s distinguished public elementary schools, nine year old Cyani was the youngest individual to win in this national competition. The program was part of the National Youth Art Month Flag Event, “School Flags Across the U.S. … Flying High.”

Not shown in the attached photo, but also present, was Cyani’s art teacher, Cheryl Parisi.
