Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) released the following statement:
The storm that ravaged our area took place nearly four days ago. I am deeply concerned that, even now, thousands of people are still without power and too many roads are still blocked by trees and other debris. The clean up and restoration of power is simply taking too long.
I have been in daily contact with PSE&G, New Jersey state government and county and local officials urging them to move as fast as humanly possible to address these problems. I have also been in touch with FEMA and the White House letting them know of my strong support for New Jersey’s eventual request for a federal disaster declaration. In fact, FEMA is on the ground now in Northern New Jersey assessing the damage.
We can’t turn your power back on or remove a tree from your street, but we can call the people who are supposed to do those things and give them a little extra motivation!! It has been a very tough winter and as we continue to deal with the challenges of this most recent storm I want to encourage people to call my office in Hackensack at (201) 646-0808.
