  • Elected President of the Freshman Class of Democrats: As we move into one of the most critical elections in our nation’s history, Congresswoman Sutton was elected to lead her fellow Freshman Members. The Democratic class of 2006 is one of the largest, active and most diverse classes in recent history, made up of progressives, blue dogs, new democrats and others. The class meets weekly with Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss policy initiatives, message strategy, and the nation's direction.

  • Graded A+ on the Drum Major Institute’s Congressional Middle Class Scorecard: The Drum Major Institute issues each Member of Congress a grade based on their voting record on bills that impact our middle class families as well as low-income Americans striving to move into the middle class. The Drum Major institute recognized Congresswoman Sutton’s unwavering support of our nation’s working families with an A+ grade on their scorecard.

  • Fighting Freshman Award from the U.S. Business and Industry Council: This award is given to freshmen members of the U.S. House and Senate, for their work on trade policy supporting American manufacturing. This award is rarely given out, but Congresswoman Sutton was recognized for her tireless commitment to an American trade policy that works for American workers and businesses, not against them.

  • Graded A+ from The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America: The IAVA is a non-partisan advocate for our nation's returning soldiers and their families. Rankings in the Report Card were based on key veterans' legislation considered during the 110th Congress. Congresswoman Sutton's dedication to our troops was recognized with an A+ ranking.

  • 100% Score by the Alliance for Retired Americans: The Alliance for Retired Americans tracks Congressional votes on measures that affect our older Americans and retirees. Congresswoman Sutton’s dedication to these issues was recognized with a 100% score.

  • First recipient of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association’s (SCAA) “Public Leadership” award: Congresswoman Sutton was honored with the first ever “Public Leadership award from the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association for her work to bring lifesaving Automated External Defibrillators to schools. Congresswoman Sutton’s legislation, the Josh Miller HEARTS (Helping Everyone Access Responsive Treatment in Schools) Act, passed the House of Representatives in June, 2008 and will establish a grant program through the Department of Education that will provide schools with funds for lifesaving AEDs and AED/CPR training.

  • 100% Score from the National Breast Cancer Coalition's 2008 Congressional Record of Support for the 110th Congress: Congresswoman Sutton's strong support for healthcare for all Americans as well as her record of supporting breast cancer research and treatment initiatives earned her a 100% score.

  • “A” Grade on the National Education Association’s Legislative Report Card: The National Education Association (NEA) Legislative Report Card measures Members of Congress’ support for public education and educators. Grades are based on their voting records as well as co-sponsorships, behind-the-scenes-work, Committee work, and accessibility. Congresswoman Sutton’s dedication to education was recognized with an A grade.

  • Named Section 4 Community Development Champion by Habitat for Humanity International: Congresswoman Sutton has been a staunch supporter of ensuring quality affordable housing for families in Ohio and across the country. Because of her strong record, Habitat for Humanity named her a Section 4 Community Development Champion.

  • Humane Champion Award from the Humane Society: Congresswoman Sutton is committed to protecting the welfare of our nation’s animals and protecting them against cruelty. The Humane society recognized Congresswoman Sutton with the Humane Champion Award.

  • Named “Friend of the Farm Bureau” by the American Farm Bureau Federation: The award is presented to those Members of Congress who have demonstrated their commitment to the issues most important to America’s family farmers. Because of her support for nutrition programs, renewable energy, food safety and other issues, Congresswoman Sutton was named a “Friend of the Farm Bureau.”

  • Graded “A” by the Americans for the Arts Action Fund: Congresswoman Sutton has consistently supported funding for arts programs in Ohio and across the country and is a Member of the Congressional Arts Caucus. The Americans for the Arts Action Fund gave Congresswoman Sutton an “A” grade, their highest grade for her leadership on this issue.
