Louisiana's First Congressional District

Louisiana’s First Congressional District is made up of 6 different parishes, several famous cities and is home to a kaleidoscope of culture. The culinary heritage, music, and scenic beauty that this state is known for doesn’t just stop at Lake Pontchartrain, instead it reaches across the lake to each of the parishes in the First Congressional District.

The North and South Shores of Lake Ponchartrain make up this unique Congressional District. The district is connected by the world’s longest bridge, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway which spans over 23 miles. The Causeway serves not only as a way for commuters to drive across the lake but also as a uniting landmark for the district.

The First District has an incredible combination of New Orleans pizzazz, friendly dairy farmers, and historic downtown charm. Visitors from all over the globe come to Louisiana for more than just Mardi Gras; their visits extend to great festivals like the Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula and to landmarks like the St. Tammany Trailhead as well as other great attractions throughout the district. All of these factors contribute to the diverse and unique nature of the First Congressional District of Louisiana.
