STATEMENT BY SENATOR JOHN McCAIN REGARDING THE DECISION BY THE D.C. CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS
April 7, 2010
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) made following statement regarding the decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in Comcast Corporation v. Federal Communications Commission:
"I applaud the decision by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals stating that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) does not have the authority to enforce network management practices of Internet Services Providers.
“Our country cannot afford another government power grab over a service provided by private businesses in a competitive marketplace. Any government takeover of the Internet will stifle innovation, in turn slowing our economic turnaround and further depressing an already anemic job market.”
Senator McCain introduced S. 1835, the Internet Freedom Act of 2009 introduced October 22, 2009 to prohibit the FCC from regulating the Internet. View Internet Freedom Act of 2009 Press Release
