UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
I support extending unemployment benefits, but I think we should pay for them instead of piling more debt on our kids and grandkids.

In June, Democrats killed the Republican bill that would have extended unemployment benefits for another month, but paid for them instead of adding even more money to the debt. I was also a cosponsor of Senator Thune's Substitute Amendment which would have extended unemployment benefits until November and paid for that extension. Unfortunately, Democrats defeated this bill as well.

EMPOWERING EPA BUREAUCRATS
The American people have repeatedly said no to these cap-and-tax schemes and today the majority in the Senate told them that their opinion doesn’t count.

It may come as a surprise to unelected, inside the beltway bureaucrats and even to some of my colleagues, but people in Missouri are struggling, people across America are struggling and these regulations will only inflict more pain.

OIL SPILL
British Petroleum, and its partners, must be made to pay every last penny needed to clean up their mess and compensate victims.

STAN MUSIAL MEDAL CAMPAIGN
Stan the Man played the game of baseball like no person before him and no person since, inspiring decades of players and fans with his brilliance, grace and consistency.   I can’t think of a more deserving Missourian, he dedicated 22 years to the game of baseball and every year since to public service making Stan not only a legendary player, but a true American hero.

FINANCIAL REFORM
All you need to know about this bill is that it’s supported by Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and opposed by small businesses and community bankers across Missouri.  Unfortunately, instead of protecting Americans from Wall Street gone wild, Democrats have passed a bill that will hurt Main Street and empower a super bureaucracy with greater reach into all of our lives.

EARMARKS
I listen to local leaders in Missouri – not Washington bureaucrats – and I don’t think bureaucrats in the Obama Administration should be given the power to earmark 100 percent of federal funds.

HEALTH CARE DEBATE
The government takeover of health care was forced through by the Democrats with promises that it would lower health care costs.  But it turns out, the new law will actually increase health care costs according to the Administration’s own chief Actuary at the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.

This is not the kind of reform the American people wanted from Congress.  Republicans will continue to hold President Obama accountable for his promises and fight to replace this expensive government takeover of health care with common sense reforms that lower health care costs for families, farmers and small businesses.

CAP AND TRADE BILL
The American people do not want a new gas tax, intentionally higher energy prices and lost jobs that the Kerry-Lieberman bill would force on them in the name of climate change.
