Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is something that everyone can participate in, and efficiency holds tremendous potential as a way to save energy throughout the United States. Below is a list of resources available to help Alaskans, whether you are contemplating major renovations to your home, would like to know about efficiency tax credits or rebates or just want to find out if that home appliance you've had your eye on is energy efficient.

Alaska Housing Finance CorporationAK Housing

AHFC manages a variety of programs designed to improve the quality of all housing throughout Alaska. Long involved with weatherization and energy-efficiency grants, studies and programs, AHFC is now carrying out research projects with the Cold Climate Housing Research Center that have practical significance for every Alaskan.

Alaska Energy Authority

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) works to reduce the cost of energy in Alaska by

1) providing for the operation and maintenance of existing Authority-owned projects with maximum utility control,
2) assisting in the development of safe, reliable, and efficient energy systems throughout Alaska, which are sustainable and environmentally sound,
3) reducing the cost of electricity for residential customers and community facilities in rural Alaska, and
4) responding quickly and effectively to electrical emergencies. You can find a description of their programs here.

AEA loan programs, assistance in renewable energy development and various types of community training and assistance in energy areas can benefit all Alaskans, but those in rural Alaska will find their bulk fuel rural power system upgrades especially helpful.
