***Senator Bennett is still happy to continue to arrange tours for your groups visiting Washington, DC; however, due to the closing of his office, we will be unable to schedule tours of all buildings and monuments, other than the Capitol, for any request submitted after November 1, 2010. This includes tours of the White House, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Supreme Court, and Department of the Interior monuments. All requests for Capitol tours with Senator Bennett’s office must be submitted by December 1, 2010 and the last available day for these tours will be December 15, 2010. Please fill out the tour request form to submit a request for a Capitol tour.***

United States Capitol

The Capitol is home to the U.S. Congress and its two legislative bodies, the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Your visit to the historic U.S. Capitol begins as you enter the Capitol Visitor Center. With its soaring spaces and skylight views of the Capitol dome, the Visitor Center welcomes you on a journey of discovery. Through films, exhibits, and tours, you will learn about how Congress works, how this magnificent building was built, and how citizens can participate in this extraordinary experiment called representative democracy. Requesting a Tour

  • Senator Bennett's office conducts tours for groups up to 15 people Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Please request tours at least one week in advance. Click here or on the Tour Request Form above if you would like a staff member from Senator Bennett's office to conduct your tour of the U.S. Capitol. (Note: When the Senate is not in session, tours will be offered at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.)
  • If the tour times listed above do not work for you or if you would like a Capitol tour on a Saturday, you may request a tour through the Capitol Visitor Services at http://tours.visitthecapitol.gov.
  • The Capitol Visitor Services also conducts tours for groups of 16-40 people. Please make requests through our office at least four months in advance.

Information on Your Congressional Tour

  • Please come to our office located at 431 Dirksen Senate Office Building. The Dirksen Senate Office Building is located on the corner of 1st and C Streets NE. The nearest metro stop is Union Station on the red line. The tour starts from our office, and leaves on time. Tours include multiple families and admittance to the Capitol is based on a timed-entry system, so if you are running late, please call before the start time. This tour lasts approximately one hour and thirty minutes. Unfortunately, latecomers cannot be accommodated.
  • Please contact our office at least 24 hours in advance to cancel any tours. You can reach us at 202-224-5444.
  • Certain items are prohibited in the U.S. Capitol including: food, liquid (water, lotion, aerosol and non-aerosol sprays, etc.), sharp objects (pocket knives, nail files, etc.), backpacks and any bag larger than 14" wide x 13" high x 4" deep. Electric stun guns, weapons or replica weapons, ammunition, and fireworks are prohibited. Baby strollers are allowed in the Capitol; however, they are not permitted in the galleries. If you have any questions, please contact our office. Everyone is strongly encouraged to carry their personal belongings coats, purses and wallets, with them at all times. If there is an evacuation of the Capitol or Senate office buildings you may not readily be able to retrieve items left in the office. Our office has taken these precautions (directed by the Capitol police) for your safety in case of an evacuation.

 

Supreme Court

  • Tours are conducted Monday through Friday at 1:45 p.m. for groups up to six people. Please request at least two months in advance.

State Department

  • Tours for groups up to 25 people are conducted at various times Monday through Friday. Tours are offered to adults and children over the age of 12. Please request at least six weeks in advance.

White House

  • The White House distributes tours on a first-come, first-served basis starting six months in advance. To allow adequate time for security clearance, please make requests at least one month in advance.
  • Tours are conducted Tuesday through Saturday mornings for groups of ten people or more. For groups smaller than ten, our office will work with other offices to combine tour groups. The White House cannot grant requests for groups smaller than ten.
  • High demand tour: cancellations must be received no later than two weeks prior to tour.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, or Washington National Cathedral

  • Tours for groups up to ten people are available at various times Monday through Friday for each of these destinations. Please request at least six weeks in advance.

If you need to cancel a tour, please give our office 24 hours notice. In addition, please note that all tours leave promptly at scheduled times and security restrictions prevent latecomers from joining tours already underway.
