Bennett Praises House Passage of NASA Authorization Bill Saying It will Help Save Thousands of Utah Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the NASA Authorization Act of 2010, which requires the development of a new Heavy Lift Vehicle for the next three years, protecting thousands of jobs in northern Utah:

“This is a tremendous step in the right direction for our state and for our country. With the passage of this bill, Congress is one step closer to reversing the Obama administration’s misguided proposal to phase out the Constellation and Ares programs.

“This bill’s passage indicates bipartisan support for the continuation of NASA’s mission to go into deep space with manned space flight. Solid rocket motors, like those produced in Utah, are critical to this effort. I am pleased with this step forward but I recognize there is still work that must be done. As a member of the appropriations committee, I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure funding moves forward.”
