I applied for my passport months ago and still haven’t received it. What’s taking so long?

The months from February to April are the busiest time of year for passports, so the passport agencies usually experience an increase in applications during this period. This year, however, the problem has been compounded by the addition of new travel regulations that increased the number of destinations for which U.S. citizens are required to have passports. As a consequence, passport agencies have been overwhelmed by an extremely high volume of applications; they have changed their processing times accordingly.

I’m leaving for a trip soon, and I still haven’t received my passport! What can your office do to help?

If your departure date is more than two weeks away, please don’t panic. The passport agencies are extremely backed up, and are not accepting our expedite requests until within 14 days of travel. Once your travel date is less than two weeks away…

We can:

  • Help you determine which regional passport agency is handling your passport
  • Check the status of your passport
  • Notify the appropriate agency of your departure date, and request that they send you your passport before that date

We cannot:

  • Waive the $60 expedite fee
  • Rush processing for a passport when there is no specific travel date
  • Put in an expedite request more than 14 days before the travel date

Most of the passports we assist with have been delivered just a few days before the date of departure, but, for the most part, they have arrived in time. We cannot make any promises or guarantees, however, since we ourselves do not process, issue, or deliver passports.
