How Dems Provide Wall Street Allies With Permanent Bailouts – With Or Without $50B Slush Fund

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

There are conflicting reports as to whether Washington Democrats will remove a $50 billion bailout slush fund from their Wall Street bailout bill, but it’s a moot point. With or without the fund, Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd’s (D-CT) 1,408-page regulatory reform bill would empower the federal government to provide Wall Street with permanent bailouts, courtesy of American taxpayers.

Under the Dodd bill, the nation’s largest financial firms – including Goldman Sachs, President Obama’s top Wall Street ally – would be eligible for special treatment at the highest levels of government, including resolution authorities and resources unavailable to smaller financial firms.

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

A better plan for jobs

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

During a meeting at the White House this week, House Republican leaders presented President Obama with a plan to create jobs and get our economy moving again. It is a responsible blueprint for action based on common-sense solutions that recognize that small business, not government, is the engine of job creation in America.

GOP Leader: "We've lost three million jobs over the course of this year, we have a 10.2 percent unemployment rate, and we'll be talking about how to really help small businesses and American families get the economy moving"

WASHINGTON, D.C. - At the weekly Republican leadership press conference, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) previewed the roundtable discussion House Republicans will hold with leading economists tomorrow to discuss job-threatening policies moving through Congress that are creating uncertainty for small businesses, the engine of job creation in America. Following are Boehner's remarks:

Boehner: “More Spending, More Debt, And Fewer Jobs Under Speaker Pelosi’s 2,000-Page Health Care Proposal”

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

At his weekly press briefing today, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed the Republicans' plan to lower health care costs for American families and small businesses and increase access to quality care at a price our nation can afford. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirmed the GOP plan will lower premiums for the American people by up to 10 percent, while Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) $1.3 trillion government takeover of health care will increase Americans' costs add to our already skyrocketing debt. Following are excerpts of his remarks:

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Boehner Discusses Health Care, Dems’ Push For Bigger Government, War in Afghanistan

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

- In an appearance this morning on NBC's Meet the Press, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) discussed health care, the War in Afghanistan, and the dramatic expansion of the size of government under the current Administration. Leader Boehner highlighted House Republicans' better solutions on health care - including allowing the American people to buy insurance across state lines and enacting medical liability reform - and called on the President to scrap his costly government takeover of health care and hit the "reset" button so Republicans and Democrats can work together on a bipartisan bill that reduces health care costs, expands coverage, and doesn't break the bank. Following are highlights of Boehner's appearance and video of the interview:

Detailed Analysis: House Democrats' Government Takeover of Health Care Destroys Small Business Jobs

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner
Middle-class families and small businesses across America are right to ask, "Where are the jobs?" After all, the Administration promised that its trillion-dollar "stimulus" spending bill would provide a "jolt" to the economy and create jobs immediately. However, more than two million jobs have been lost since the "stimulus" became law, and the unemployment rate has risen far beyond the eight percent promised by the Administration if Congress passed the "stimulus." Now, Washington Democrats are poised to pass legislation that will destroy even more jobs: a costly government takeover of health care that will impose new taxes and Big Government mandates on small businesses and increase their health care costs as well.

Republicans’ Plan Helps Americans With Pre-Existing Conditions – Without a Government Takeover of Health Care

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the President's town meeting in New Hampshire today where he discussed the Democrats' government-run health care plan as well as improved protections for Americans with pre-existing medical conditions who are seeking health coverage:

Americans Concerned About Impact of Dems' Health Care Plan on Taxpayers, Families, Seniors

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner

Americans' concerns about the impact of a government takeover of health care continue to grow, according to two new polls out in recent days. After no fewer than five polls released last week showed increasing, if not outright, opposition to government-run health care, this is a troubling trend for Democrats aiming to put bureaucrats in charge of Americans' health care. A quick review of the latest polling shows increasing worries over the President's handling of health care and the impact of the Democrats' plan on the already skyrocketing deficit:

Pelosi’s Tax Measure Would Kill Jobs, Raise Utility Prices

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner
All year long, Democrats have made promises about job creation. They promised unemployment would not rise above 8 percent if Congress passed the trillion-dollar "stimulus." It now stands at 9.5 percent nationally - and 15 states already face double-digit unemployment. In the wake of Congress's record spending binge, the American people are asking, "Where are the jobs?"

"Stimulus" for Mice: With Unemployment Rising, Democrats' "Stimulus" Helps San Francisco Mice, But Not American Workers

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner
How does helping the salt marsh harvest mouse help middle-class families and small businesses struggling with dramatic job loss during this recession? That's a good question to ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), other Democrats in Congress, and the Administration, as it was recently revealed that the tiny little mouse is getting $16 million in taxpayer dollars thanks to the Democrats' "stimulus" spending bill that isn't working. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) exposed the mouse money in his weekly press briefing earlier today:

VICE-PRESIDENT BIDEN ADMITS: “PEOPLE ARE BEING SCAMMED ALREADY” ON DEMS’ STIMULUS

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner
On the 105th day since the President signed the bloated, trillion-dollar "stimulus" spending bill into law, the Administration is continuing to do whatever it can to sell this widely-panned legislation. Today's chief salesman? Vice President Biden. Unfortunately for the Administration, the Vice President veered wildly off script in a roundtable in New York, admitting that "people are being scammed already."

That's hardly the reassurance the American people were looking for - and that hardly meets the Administration's promise that the bill would "...contain an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability." But that's not the only claim that's failed to stack up, of course. Don't forget about these:

Boehner Statement on Energy & Commerce Committee’s National Energy Tax Legislation

Submitted by Rep. John Boehner
Washington -

Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today issued the following statement on the Energy & Commerce Committee's consideration of legislation to establish a national energy tax on middle-class families and small businesses:

"It's disappointing that Democrats are barreling ahead with a national energy tax on anyone who drives a car, buys anything made in America, or dares to flip on a light switch. At a time when middle-class families and small businesses are struggling to make ends meet, particularly as gas prices spike heading into the summer driving season, it is unfathomable that some in Washington would force them to cough up even more by paying an unprecedented national energy tax.
