Economic Crisis

WHAT WE MUST DO

We've come a long way over the last year, but it's not nearly good enough. We need to create millions of new jobs.

I believe that Congress must take several additional steps to fix the economy, create more jobs, and avoid another financial crisis:

  • Create more new jobs with federal investments in research and in modernizing our infrastructure
  • Enact tax incentives for small businesses to make new investments in plants and equipment and for all businesses to hire new workers
  • Extend unemployment insurance and COBRA health insurance benefits until the job market improves
  • Help homeowners with upside-down mortgages
  • Cap credit card interest rates
  • Make it easier and more affordable for small businesses to get the financing they need to operate and expand

It took a long time to get into this mess, and it's going to take time to get out of it as well. I will continue to work in Congress to restore jobs and prosperity to the country -- and especially to southwestern Pennsylvania.
