Congressman Charlie Melancon Speaks on the Issues that Matter Most in Louisiana

Hurricane Recovery

"As the representative for much of south Louisiana, hurricane recovery will always be a top priority for me. As we move forward from this challenging time, I will keep fighting for greater federal investments in the coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects that are crucial to protecting our citizens, communities, and way of life. "Tax relief for middle class families will strengthen our economy and help so many Louisianans who work hard and play by the rules. I have voted in Congress to reduce taxes for the middle class and support eliminating the death tax.  I believe our country needs a fiscally responsible tax policy that both rewards success and takes care of our needs." 

"I've been the owner of several small businesses in south Louisiana, so I personally understand how hard it can be for small businesses to make ends meet.  However, no employee can be expected to survive on just $10,700 a year, which is the current annual earnings for fulltime minimum wage workers.  I believe the best way to move more Americans into the middle class is to make sure they can earn a meaningful and fair wage, if they put in a full day's work."

"I am strongly pro-life, and have worked in Congress to reduce abortions in this country.  I have partnered with Democrats for Life of America and several of my colleagues in Congress in sponsoring bipartisan legislation that would provide many vulnerable women with the support and information they need to choose life for their unborn children."
