Biography

U.S. Representative Tom Graves entered Congress in June 2010 after serving seven and half years in the Georgia General Assembly.  He represents Georgia’s 9th Congressional District which touches the northern suburbs of metro Atlanta to the northwest corner bordering Alabama and Tennessee.

In Congress, Tom serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the Committee on Homeland Security.

Serving on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee allows Tom the opportunity to provide another voice for Georgia’s constantly growing infrastructure needs while Congress focuses on the roads, bridges and waterways that serve our nation. Tom is a member of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, which is important to the 9th District because of its oversight responsibility over the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and Lake Lanier.  He also serves on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit and the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials.

Tom is also honored to serve on the Committee on Homeland Security, which was created by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002 in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 to provide Congressional oversight over Department of Homeland Security.  Tom serves on the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment.  Homeland Security Republicans remain committed, day in and day out, to ensuring that the American people stay safe and secure—evaluating security issues, conducting oversight, and enacting legislative measures to help protect our nation.

In the Georgia General Assembly, Tom authored legislation that was nationally recognized and designed to help small businesses put Georgians back to work through a series of tax credits, cuts, and incentives for small businesses.  After serving nearly four terms, Tom left the legislature in order to seek Congressional seat left vacated by former 9th District Rep. Nathan Deal.

Tom and his family live on their farm in Ranger, Georgia.  Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, Tom spent his early years in White, Georgia and later attended and graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A in Finance. He and his wife Julie have three children and they are active members of Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun.
