  • Governor Pat Quinn recently signed legislation that allows Illinois service members deployed after the Sept. 11 attacks who have sustained injuries as a result of hostile actions to apply for $5,000 grants. This legislation is effective immediately. The grants come from donations to the Illinois Military Family relief fund. Each grant recipient receives a minimum of $5,000 and can get just one grant for each incident that resulted in injuries. For additional information, please click here.
  • Last year, Congress successfully passed the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.  This bill included a provision that covers the full cost of tuition at four-year-colleges for veterans who served after September 11, 2001.  While thousands of veterans have applied to take advantage of this new benefit, many who have applied have not yet received their payments due to delayed processing.  If you have had trouble or experienced delays in receiving your benefits please visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Web site to apply for an emergency check: https://advancepay.gibill.va.gov/.
