U.S. Congressman Bill Posey

Taxes & Fiscal Responsibility

The current tax system is broken and needs to be fixed. To keep our economy growing, we must reform the tax code to make it simpler, fairer, and more pro-growth. The federal government does not have a revenue problem. Washington has a spending problem. And when the federal government spends the taxpayer's money, they should not be ashamed to tell the taxpayers how it was spent. The practice of secret earmarks and wasteful pork projects must be replaced with transparency and accountability. We should ensure that every recipient of federal funding his held accountable for how they spend taxpayer dollars.

Congress should act to reduce the tax burden on all citizens and I support making past tax cuts permanent. Hard working Americans should be allowed to keep as much of the money they earn as possible. And small businesses – responsible for creating 70% of all new jobs in America – will be able to create more jobs if we lower their tax burden. Furthermore, since most small businesses pay taxes at the individual income tax rates, lowering the tax rates will leave more money for small businesses to use to purchase equipment, expand, and hire new employees.

Congress also needs to balance the federal budget as soon as possible. A balanced budget means our government is operating in the red, which leads to a stronger currency and economy. It’s wrong to put America’s debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren.

Below is a full list of all of the tax reform legislation that I have cosponsored this Congress:
