2009 Highway Bill

2009 Highway Bill

"Investing in Northern New York Transportation Infrastructure to Create Jobs and Economic Activity in the North Country."

Congress will reauthorize funding this year for all major surface transportation programs, which will direct hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding to critical transportation projects across the country during the next six years.  This is commonly referred to as the “Highway Bill."  Northern New York's transportation and infrastructure needs are immense, and with improvements in transportation come short and long-term economic benefits to the region.

The Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill serves many purposes in addressing our nation's transportation infrastructure improvements, but most importantly, it allows me to direct federal funds to projects in my district that are essential to community and economic development.  There is no better way to spur economic activity and create new jobs than to invest in infrastructure.
Below are the project requests that I have submitted to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for consideration.  These projects will not only directly lead to new jobs in our district, but will improve efficiency of travel, safety, and ensure long-term economic growth for communities throughout the North Country.
