Internships

Senator Warner offers college and graduate students the opportunity to experience the legislative process firsthand.  Internships are available year round in each of the Senator’s offices: Abingdon, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, Vienna, and Washington, DC.

Interns will experience the legislative process and the operations of the Senator’s office by working with staff on issues and interacting with constituents.  Each intern will be given a variety of tasks, including conducting legislative research, assisting with correspondence, attending hearings and briefings, and performing general administrative duties. Interns in state offices support office staff by working to address constituent concerns, performing legislative research, and assisting with special projects and events.

To apply for the Washington, DC or Virginia internship program, please complete the application form and submit all required documents, which include: a cover letter, resume, official college transcript, 2 letters of recommendation (must be written on official letterhead, and signed by the recommending individual) and a short writing sample  that responds to a question we pose. Internships are reserved for college sophomores, juniors and seniors, and preference will be given to candidates who reside in Virginia or attend school in-state. We ask for a minimum average commitment of three days a week.
