My office can provide assistance to South Carolina residents who have
questions about a variety of issues or problems with federal government
agencies. The most common casework topics are listed on the right-hand column of this page and within each topic page there is a Frequently Asked Questions
section. If you are unsure whether your concern is federal in nature,
please visit
www.usa.gov for a list of federal agencies.
My office can submit a congressional inquiry to the appropriate
federal agency to request a response, make sure all your rights are
respected and correct any procedural errors. I must respect and obey
the laws and regulations for each agency and I am unable to make
requests that would violate these rules.
Legal Issues
If your concerns are legal in nature, you should contact an attorney or
the appropriate judicial agency. As a U.S. Senator, I do not have
jurisdiction over such matters, but I will provide you with the suitable
contacts that can assist you with your case.
You may wish to contact the South Carolina Bar Association for legal
advice, services and referrals available to South Carolina residents at
http://www.scbar.org.
If your concern involves misconduct by an attorney or judge, you
should contact the Office of Disciplinary Counsel under the South
Carolina Supreme Court at
http://www.judicial.state.sc.us/discCounsel/index.cfm.
If your case involves the South Carolina prison system, you should
contact the South Carolina Department of Corrections at 803-896-8500 or
http://www.doc.sc.gov.
The Lawyer Referral Service also offers assistance to individuals
via telephone or online at
http://www.scbar.org/public/lrs/default.asp.
State Government Issues
If you have questions about South Carolina State Agencies, I am happy to
refer you to the appropriate place. Unfortunately, I am unable to
assist you with these matters because they are not under my jurisdiction
as a U.S. Senator. If you are unsure if your concern is with a state
agency, please visit
http://www.scaccess.gov for a list of South Carolina State Agencies.
You may also contact Governor Mark Sanford for assistance with these
concerns or your state representative at
http://www.scstatehouse.net/cgi-bin/zipcodesearch.exe.
