Washington, DC - Today, Congressman John F. Tierney (D-MA) and Senator John F. Kerry (D-MA) announced $2.5 million in federal funding for the proposed Salem Wharf improvement project, which will improve the infrastructure of the Blaney Street ferry landing and expand Salem Ferry service.

"I am pleased that Salem will be receiving this $2.5 million federal grant. This project is a key piece of the city's economic development, one which is expected to spur job creation and increase transportation options for local residents. Mayor Driscoll has shown great leadership on advancing this important project and I have enjoyed working with her on it and will continue to do so," said Congressman John F. Tierney.

"This is great news for Salem and for everyone who will now have greater access to this historic city," said Sen. Kerry.  "Mayor Driscoll and I saw firsthand this summer how a pier at the end of Blarney Street will increase tourism from Boston while easing commuter traffic for the people of Salem."

"This Department of Transportation Discretionary Grant Award will be a huge help in beginning construction on the Salem Wharf project. This investment will help increase use of the pier, which will, in turn, bring additional revenue to the City. I would like to thank Senator John Kerry and Congressman John Tierney as well as the Patrick/Murray Administration for their help in pushing this important project forward," said Mayor Kimberley Driscoll. "And, I look forward to continuing to work with MassDOT on making visible changes to Salem's waterfront."
