WASHINGTON – The deadline for all eligible U.S. servicemembers to submit their applications for stop loss has been extended to December 3, 2010. Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay is available to servicemembers from every branch of the military who had their enlistment extended or retirement suspended due to stop loss between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009. The payment is $500 per month served due to stop loss. The original deadline to apply for these benefits was October 21.
Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) wants to ensure that everyone eligible receives this compensation.
“Our servicemembers have earned this payment by serving beyond their stated commitment in very trying conditions,” said Costello. “I encourage anyone who thinks they may qualify for this compensation to find out for certain – it will provide help to our men and women in uniform who have remained on active duty longer than planned.”
