California's 40th district encompasses the cities in western and northern Orange County. Its cities form a hub for one of the most vibrant business, cultural and educational communities in Southern California. Defense contractors, health care providers, manufacturing, nurseries, agriculture, and small business are the core of the 40th district. From defense contractor Raytheon in Fullerton to Pacificare Health Systems' Headquarters in Cypress to construction giant Orco Block in Stanton, as well as Knotts Berry Farm Amusement Park in Buena Park, this business community is strong and diverse.
This truly Californian district includes members of 95 different ethnic groups. Latinos and Asians account for just under 50% of this district's population. Fullerton contains the largest population of Korean-Americans in Orange County and Westminster is home to Little Saigon, the largest enclave of Vietnamese in the U.S. outside of Vietnam.
There are a number of great colleges and universities in the 40th district, including California State University at Fullerton, Chapman University, the Southern California College of Optometry, Hope International University and Western State Law School, as well as two community college districts, North Orange County Community College District and Rancho Santiago Community College District. Some of the best public and private elementary and secondary educational facilities in California call the 40th Congressional district "home."
