Upper Darby, PA — On Wednesday, September 1, 2010, Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-07) hosted a Jobs Fair at the McCall Conference and Meeting Center in Upper Darby helping to connect hundreds of residents to local employers offering over 500 positions combined.

“Throughout the 7th Congressional District, there is a strong and capable workforce who, through no fault of their own, are still struggling to find a dependable and good-paying employment after losing their job during this recession,” said Congressman Sestak. “Today’s event was designed to help them sharpen skills that help in the job search and provide them access to local employers that have jobs available.”

The Jobs Fair featured over 50 potential employers, like Boeing, Penn Medicine, and Fox & Roach Realtors; government organizations, like FEMA, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Coatesville VAMC; and educational institutions, like  Graduate! Philadelphia and the Energy Coordinating Agency, which runs a green-jobs training center. Those in attendance offered a variety of available positions – from manufacturing and sales positions to healthcare and information technology – as well as educational opportunities and resources to aid in the job search.

In addition to the networking opportunities, the Congressman partnered with PA CareerLink at Delaware County Community College, a one-stop shop for job-seekers, to provide valuable workshops on skills essential to a successful job search like resume building and interviewing. Representatives from the US Office of Personnel Management offered an hour-long seminar on federal employment.

Since the recession began, Congressman Sestak has focused on helping the working families and small businesses, not only in the 7th Congressional District, but across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, get through the current economic downturn. He has worked to ensure quality job creation and income security by advocating legislation that would spur job creation by small businesses – which create 80 percent of jobs throughout the country – such as a 15 percent tax credit for hiring that could create up to 5 million jobs in two years, and better access to affordable credit. Additionally, the Congressman has advocated and voted for much-needed extensions of COBRA and unemployment benefits to provide needed resources to those who are pursuing employment opportunities in this challenging job market.

Born and raised in Delaware County, former 3-star Admiral Joe Sestak served in the Navy for 31 years and now serves as the Representative from the 7th District of Pennsylvania.
