November 10, 2010

Miami, Florida --- Tomorrow, Veterans Day Thursday November 11th, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will honor our nation’s veterans by taking part in a dedication ceremony of a Wall of Heroes at the University of Miami’s Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education. The Wall of Heroes is in honor of US Army Staff Sergeant Ronald Spino, who was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan in December 2009. Staff Sergeant Spino had trained at the Gordon Center before his deployment.

Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen will join Dr. Donna Shalala, Dr. Michael Gordon, the family of Staff Sergeant Spino, and military officers for the dedication of the Wall of Heroes. Ileana will also present the family of the Staff Sergeant with a US flag flown over the Capitol in honor of this brave patriot who lost his life while serving his nation. The Wall of Heroes will also pay tribute to local fire rescue personnel killed in the line of duty.

The JMH Ryder Trauma Center, in partnership with the Army Trauma Training Center, operates this Miami based facility that ensures fighting soldiers have access in the theater of combat to the same high tech, specialized care they would have at the most prestigious hospitals. The facility trains military clinical teams and provides total team training for the soldiers who walk through its doors.

The dedication ceremony will take place TOMORROW Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education located at 1120 NW 14 Street, first floor, Miami.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, “I look forward to spending the morning of Veterans Day with Dr. Gordon, the wonderful staff at UM’s Medical Research Building and the family of Staff Sergeant Spino. This brave patriot gave his life so that we could continue living in freedom and liberty, and on Veterans Day we will honor his memory and his life. We must never forget the sacrifice of our soldiers and their families.”
