Titus Statement on Nevada’s Unemployment Numbers

Monday, September 20, 2010

Henderson, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District released the following statement today on Nevada’s new unemployment numbers.

“These latest unemployment numbers reflect what we already know – Nevadans are struggling during this difficult economic time and we must continue to make job creation our top priority.  This means diversifying our economy so that Southern Nevada is not so dependent on tourism and gaming and investing in both the production and manufacturing of renewable energy.  The House has passed an energy bill that has the potential to create up to 17,000 new jobs in Nevada, turning the Silver State into a leader in the clean energy future.

“While unemployment remains stubbornly high, our efforts to save and create jobs have had an impact in our community.  The Recovery Act saved 1,800 jobs at McCarran airport, kept more than 2,000 teachers in the classroom, and funded infrastructure projects that put private companies to work.  We must build on these efforts and continue to provide help to Southern Nevada’s small businesses that will be the engines of growth that propel us to an economic recovery.”
