Titus Announces Location of New Veterans’ Clinic in Laughlin

Monday, October 4, 2010

Henderson, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s Third District announced today that a new veterans’ outpatient clinic will be located in the Laughlin Professional Plaza at 3650 South Pointe Circle.  Titus has been fighting to ensure that the new clinic, which is receiving $1.2 million in federal funds, is built in Laughlin and not an alternate location.

“The brave men and women who protected our nation and sacrificed for the freedom and values we hold dear deserve the care they have earned through their service,” Congresswoman Titus said.  “For too long, veterans in Nevada have had to travel great distances to receive the care our country promised them.  A new veterans’ outpatient clinic in Laughlin will provide resources that are convenient and will serve them in their own communities.  Southern Nevada’s veterans fought for us; the least I can do to say ‘thank you’ was fight for this clinic on their behalf.  I promised them that I would do everything in my power to get this facility in Laughlin, and today I am proud to say that they will have their clinic.  No longer will Laughlin’s veterans have to travel two hours just for routine procedures.”

Titus has remained in close contact with the Department of Veterans Affairs throughout the process, and wrote a letter to Secretary Shinseki highlighting the importance of a VA clinic in the Laughlin area.  Construction of the clinic is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2011.

Money for the Laughlin outpatient clinic was awarded after a competitive and transparent selection process and was based on methodology, feasibility, and intended impact on rural veterans.  The funding for these projects is part of an ambitious VA program to improve access and quality of health care, both physical and mental, for veterans in rural areas, which also includes the creation of an Office of Rural Health in February 2007.
