Fiscal Year 2010 Transportation Project Requests Building on reforms brought about in the last Congress, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee now requires Members of Congress to post transportation infrastructure requests on their websites.
Following are the projects I submitted for inclusion in the transportation authorization bill on behalf of Rhode Island’s First Congressional District. This listing includes items submitted to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as of May 13, 2009. This list may be amended at anytime and items may be added. Roundabouts on Route 114 in Bristol
Town of Bristol 10 Court St Bristol, RI 02809 $2,000,000 The project is the installation of two roundabouts along Route 114 with one being at the intersection of Route 114 with Lower Ferry Road and the other at the intersection of Route 114 with Route 136. Poppasquash Road Seawall Repair and Road Improvements Town of Bristol 10 Court St Bristol, RI 02809 $4,000,000 The goal of this project is to repair the stone seawall and culverts along Poppasquash Road as well as repairs to the roadway which is being undermined as a result of the poor condition of the seawall and blocked culverts. Route 114 Sidewalks and Curbing Replacement Town of Bristol 10 Court St Bristol, RI 02809 $2,000,000 The project is for sidewalk and curbing replacement along with the repaving of Route 114. The sidewalk and curbing along this roadway is damaged and creates hazards for pedestrians. Taunton Avenue, Warren Avenue Interchange Project City of East Providence 145 Taunton Ave East Providence, RI 02914 $25,040,789 This request is to construct upgrades to the I-195 interchange that allow improved access to the areas around the ramp through the construction of new ramp facilities, particularly on the east side of the interchange. Waterfront Drive South City of East Providence 145 Taunton Ave East Providence, RI 02914 $10,000,000 This request is to construct the southernmost extension of Waterfront Drive from Bold Point to Lyon Avenue. Waterfront Drive Phillipsdale City of East Providence 145 Taunton Ave East Providence, RI 02914 $12,000,000 This project is for .75 miles of new roadway and relocated freight rail connecting the Dexter Road Connector portion of Waterfront Dr. with the Phillipsdale area of East Providence at Bourne Avenue. North Broadway Reconstruction City of East Providence 145 Taunton Ave East Providence, RI 02914 $2,400,000 This project is to reconstruct deteriorated major roadways, in particular, North Broadway in East Providence. Cliffwalk Restoration City of Newport 43 Broadway Newport, RI 02840 $3,360,000 This project is to incorporate up to date erosion control measures to preserve Cliff Walk and its accessibility to visitors. Broadway Corridor City of Newport 43 Broadway Newport, RI 0840 $3,040,000 This project includes enhanced pedestrian safety and repaving of Broadway from Washington Square to Bliss Road. Southern Thames Street City of Newport 43 Broadway Newport, RI 029840 $5,440,000 This purpose of this project is to improve the streetscape with underground utilities, new sidewalks, new lighting, and resurfacing of Thames St. Steel Repairs and Protective Coating RITBA One East Shore Road Jamestown, RI 02835 $10,000,000 This project is related to steel repairs and protective coatings for the Newport/Pell Bridge in order to restore the structural integrity of the suspended span. Upgrades to the Newport/Pell and Mt Hope Bridges RITBA One East Shore Road Jamestown, RI 02835 $3,685,000 The purpose of this project is to make major security upgrades to the Authority's two major bridges, Toll Plaza, and Administration Building. Cole Street Bridge City Of Pawtucket Department of Planning 175 Main St Pawtucket, RI 02860 $500,000 This project is for the replacement of Cole Street Bridge which connects Pawtucket, RI and Attleboro, MA. Branch Village Public Improvements Town of North Smithfield One Main St. Slatersville, RI 02876 $5,880,000 This project is for transportation and infrastructure improvements to correct noted deficiencies in order to support developments sites within the Branch Village area. Sayles St. Bridge Town of Woonsocket 169 Main St Woonsocket, RI 02895 $1,100,000 This project is to encapsulate the bridge, remove lead paint, and repaint with environmentally safe paint, as well as replace the structural steel of the bridge. URI Transportation Center University of Rhode Island 70 Upper College Road Kingston, RI 02881 $200,000 The goal of this project is to establish the Transportation Workforce Development Center at URI. The center will become a clearinghouse for information on workforce development initiatives in the transportation sector using the NCCDC currently at URI as a model. Providence Railroad Station Plaza Deck City of Providence Department of Public Works Providence City Hall Providence, RI 02903 $1,000,000 The City of Providence is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a portion of the top deck and landscaped area of the Train Station Parking Garage on the “Cityside” of the Providence Train Station. This will help the City fulfill plans for the repairs to this facility. Pedestrian Improvements Plan City of Providence Department of Public Works Providence City Hall Providence, RI 02903 $2,120,000 This project is to provide safe contiguous sidewalks that meet the needs of all of the residents including the mobility challenged. The City of Providence is working to address the requirements of Settlement Agreement DOJ 204-66-47 between the US Department of Justice and the City of Providence. Under the agreement, the City is required to address a number of deficiencies that have been identified by the DOJ including compliance with the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards for sidewalks. Paving and Reconstruction of City Streets City of Providence Department of Public Works Providence City Hall Providence, RI 02903 $10,000,000 This project is for local road maintenance in the City of Providence. Rhode Island Statewide Bus Fleet RIPTA 265 Melrose Street Providence, RI 02907 $14,000,000 This project will be for the purchase of buses and will allow RIPTA to meet demand for transit services throughout the state. Wire Undergrounding - Lower Thames St. Lower Thames Business Association (LTBA) 375 Thames St. (LTBA) Newport, RI 02840 $200,000 Lower Thames Street is an area that contains two-hundred small businesses in a newly designated National Register Historic District. The project will improve the streetscape on a historic transportation corridor while sustaining Newport’s nationally significant historic resources and providing vital economic and employment opportunities in the city. I-95 Pawtucket River Bridge Replacement Rhode Island Department of Transportation Two Capitol Hill, Rm. 218 Providence, RI 02903 $30,000,000 The I-95 Pawtucket River Bridge Replacement project will replace this major bridge on the National Highway System. Sakonnet River Bridge Replacement Rhode Island Department of Transportation Two Capitol Hill, Rm. 218 Providence, RI 02903 $50,000,000 The Sakonnet River Bridge carries 40,000 vehicles per day of traffic on Route 24 between Portsmouth and Tiverton, Rhode Island which is part of the National Highway System. Replacement of this bridge will benefit all citizens of RI and all users of the RI highway network. Statewide Pavement Management Program Rhode Island Department of Transportation Two Capitol Hill, Rm. 218 Providence, RI 02903 $30,000,000 This project is to address the approximately $43 million per year in pavement and sidewalk resurfacing needs to bring Rhode Island’s roadway infrastructure to a good state of repair. Streetcars for Providence RIPTA 265 Melrose Street Providence, RI 02907 $37,500,000 A Metropolitan Providence streetcar system will create stronger linkages between key destinations in our area, enhance pedestrian connectivity and encourage pedestrian trips, and reduce short automobile trips within the downtown core. Ferry for Newport RIPTA 265 Melrose Street Providence, RI 02907 $4,500,000 Ferry service from Newport to Providence is vital during the summer months. Newport – Providence ferry service will be supported by this proposal. |
