Joint Hearing on the Social Security Disability Claims Backlogs

Focus of the Hearing

This hearing will assess SSA’s plan to eliminate the backlog of disability hearings by the end of FY 2013 and the advantages and disadvantages of SSA’s hearings backlog reduction initiatives.  The hearing will also examine the rapidly-growing backlog at the initial claims level, SSA’s plan for addressing this backlog, and the impact of SSA’s plan to reinstate the reconsideration level of appeal in Michigan and other states that currently do not have this appeal stage.
