When Harry was 17 years old, his father became ill.  The family did not have health insurance, so Harry went to work in the oil fields for $1.50 an hour to help pay the bills.  He knows what it is like to not have access to medical care.  These are the life experiences that have shaped Harry's healthcare values.  These are the experiences he brings with him to Congress, where he fights to make sure working Americans have access to quality, affordable health care.

Today, an estimated 46 million Americans live without health care, and the cost is still going up. Harry will work to make sure every American takes responsibility for his or her health by choosing an option that is affordable and works for them.

Harry also believes that in order to decrease the cost of health insurance, we must bring a new focus on prevention.  Health plans, for example, should cover a standard set of preventive services, and Congress should help communities keep their citizens healthy and active.

In addition, Harry will fight for affordable prescription drugs.  Harry will support a repeal of the law that prevents Medicare from negotiating drug costs with drug makers and empower states to use Medicaid's leverage to purchase drugs at lower prices.  Harry also supports the safe importation of prescription drugs from Canada and Mexico.
