KAGEN,  STUPAK  PLACE  GENTLEMAN’S WAGER

(APPLETON, WI) – For the fourth consecutive year, Congressmen Steve Kagen (D-Appleton) and Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) are renewing their gentleman’s wager on the 104th annual Marinette-Menominee High School football game.

Since 2007, the two federal legislators have celebrated the yearly rite, with Kagen offering up Wisconsin cheese curds against Stupak’s pasties, an Upper Peninsula favorite.  Stupak leads the series, 2-1.  The game will played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th at Higley Stadium in Marinette.

“It’s the Marinette homecoming, and I’m pulling extra hard for the Marines,” Kagen said I expect a terrific battle and I pray that everybody stays healthy.”

First played in 1894, the contest is and the oldest interstate high school football in the Midwest and the third oldest in the country.

“I look forward to celebrating another Menominee Maroons victory this year and enjoying a tasty serving of Wisconsin cheese curds from Congressman Kagen,” Stupak said.  “Should the Marinette Marines find some way to emerge victorious, I will deliver some of the Upper Peninsula’s finest pasties for Congressman Kagen to enjoy.  Regardless of the outcome, it is always a great pleasure to take part in this annual tradition with my friend and colleague Steve Kagen.”
