Water Resources Development Act Project Requests

Congressman Kagen has requested authorization for the following projects by the US Army Corps of Engineers:

Dredging Detroit Harbor – Washington Island, WI

The Town of Washington Island and Door County requested assistance from the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge Detroit Harbor from its current depth of minus 14 feet down to minus 16 feet. Detroit Harbor’s current depth was established in the 1930s and the ferries that serve the Island and its 700 year round and 4,000 seasonal residents can no longer safely navigate the channel during times of low water or bad weather. Amount of authorization requested: $7,000,000.

Green Bay Metro Sewerage District Regional Organic Solids Management System – Green Bay, WI

The Green Bay Metro Sewerage District requested assistance from the Army Corps of Engineers to assist in planning, designing and building a regional organic solids management system to serve Green Bay and the surrounding communities. In addition to serving as a waste treatment facility for Green Bay and other communities in Brown County, Green Bay Metro Sewerage District envisions this project being a national Demonstration Project for environmentally responsible local public wastewater systems nationwide. Amount of authorization requested: $5,000,000.
