Carmel, NY – With the support of Congressman John Hall (NY-19), Dutchess County received $3.6 million in funding from the “State of Good Repair” Bus and Bus Facilities Initiative through the Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration.

Mass transportation systems are vital to the health of the Hudson Valley economy and to local communities. Many Dutchess County residents rely on the bus system for both personal and business-related travel.

“Having an efficient public transportation program is important for the environment and the Hudson Valley,” said Rep. Hall. “It is vital that the bus transit system receive all necessary repairs so that it may continue to fully accommodate its passengers and function effectively. Additionally, this project will create jobs in the community, that help improve the community.”

Dutchess County will use funds to replace in-ground fuel and waste water management systems, and replace the roof at its transit facility near Poughkeepsie. The existing in-ground fuel tanks and waste water storage tanks will be removed, and the county will install an above ground fuel tank. Other improvements include new drains in the wash bay, maintenance and storage areas, as well as a new oil-water separator. The new roof will conform to the drainage system. These improvements will extend the transit facility’s useful life and bring it into compliance with New York State environmental regulations.

Congressman Hall serves on the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and is a strong supporter of public transportation projects throughout the Hudson Valley.
