"A Village Called Versailles," which airs May 25th on PBS, chronicles how a hurricane-weary New Orleans East Vietnamese-American community pulls together to defeat plans for a toxic landfill in their neighborhood |
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao (LA-02) last night attended a screening of the documentary "A Village Called Versailles," the inspiring story of how a tight-knit Vietnamese-American community in New Orleans East struggles to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, only to have their homes threatened by a new government-imposed toxic landfill.
Cao attended the screening in the Capitol Visitors Center (CVC) at the U.S. Capitol. He said the film "accurately chronicles how a minority community can pull itself together to survive and prevail in the face of a common threat."
The documentary, produced and directed by independent filmmaker Leo Chiang, will be broadcast nationally May 25th on the PBS Emmy Award-winning series, "Independent Lens."
