REBUILDING OUR COMMUNITIES

• Congressman Cao facilitated the release of $1.2 million for emergency protective measures and hurricane preparedness including funding for equipment and other costs necessary to barricade roads, control traffic, control public evacuation, staff public shelters, and conduct search and rescue operations. 

• Congressman Cao secured $3,000,000 for the Louisiana Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority

• Congressman Cao secured $750,000 for the New Orleans Emergency Management Systems, the only 911 emergency service provider for the City of New Orleans.

• Congressman Cao facilitated the release of $640,264 to Total Marine Services, Inc. in Jefferson Parish. Total Marine Services currently provides maintenance to vessels and barges operating on the lower Mississippi River, the inland waterways, and off Louisiana’s Gulf Coast.

• Congressman Cao initiated the investigation of mismanagement at FEMA’s Gulf Coast Recovery Office (GCRO). Since its closure and under new FEMA leadership, recovery has accelerated.

• Congressman Cao co-sponsored the FEMA Independence Act establishing the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a cabinet-level independent agency in the executive branch.

• Congressman Cao Co-sponsored the National Hurricane Research Initiative Act to enhance hurricane preparedness through improved storm forecasting. 

• Congressman Cao Co-sponsored the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act to provide job training opportunities and to aid in the recovery of the Gulf Coast region.

• Congressman Cao secured over $139,000,000 went to the Army Corps of Engineers in support of various projects including: coastal area ecosystem restoration, levee construction, operation and maintenance along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, and hurricane protection.
