• Congressman Cao hosted his AAA Health Care Initiative in New Orleans providing free screenings, education, information about discounted prescription drugs, and referrals from the area’s top medical specialists.

• Congressman Cao worked with several health advocacy groups to co-sponsor free public hepatitis B & C screenings on Capitol Hill providing testing, counseling, and education on the deadly diseases.

• Congressman Cao secured $129 million in Social Service Block Grants to benefit the five area hospitals that provided care while Charity was shut down. (East Jefferson, Ochsner, Tulane, Touro, West Jefferson)

• Congressman Cao led a roundtable discussion at Charity Hospital concerning government reconstruction efforts post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

• Congressman Cao secured $350,000 to expand the Xavier University College of Pharmacy facilities including classrooms, lecture rooms, additional teaching and research laboratories, a mock pharmacy skills lab, a drug information center, and a multi-purpose auditorium equipped with the latest technological equipment. 

• Congressman Cao secured $450,000 for The City of New Orleans to help replace Methodist Hospital and re-establish desperately needed acute care hospital services in Jefferson Parish and New Orleans East.

• Congressman Cao secured $250,000 to support Community Health Worker Training Institute as a component of the Tulane/RAND Center for Health and Society in Louisiana.  The institute will train 100 community health workers annually to engage in health efforts including health outreach, patient care management, and health advocacy.

• Congressman Cao secured $300,000 for Dillard University for a new community health center and higher quality equipment to enhance community wellness.

• Congressman Cao secured $500,000 for the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in Greater New Orleans to expand and develop additional PACE services on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish and  provide the elderly with an alternative to institutionalized care.

• Congressman Cao secured $400,000 for The Mary Queen of Vietnam Community Development Corporation for facilities and equipment to help build a community owned health care center in African-American, Latino, and Vietnamese communities in New Orleans East.

• Congressman Cao co-sponsored the Calling for 2-1-1 Act to create a national 2-1-1 telephone service for information on health and human services.

• Congressman Cao co-sponsored the Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act to establish and implement a Pancreatic Cancer Initiative to assist in coordinating activities to address the high mortality rate associated with pancreatic cancer.

• Congressman Cao co-sponsored the HEART for Women Act to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease in women.
