U.S. Economic Development Administration awards $1.2 million to the City of El Paso to help plan for BRAC-related growth

The U.S. Economic Development Administration has awarded a $1.2 million federal grant to the City of El Paso to help plan for growth.  The funds will be used to implement the regional growth management plan, an effort by the City of El Paso, to accommodate the expected growth of Fort Bliss from 9,300 troops in 2005 to 34,000 in 2013 due to BRAC.

These additional troops will increase El Paso's population by more than 60,000 uniformed service members and their family members.
The plan will help ensure that local infrastructure can accommodate the added population to the city.
