Washington, Jul 29 - The National Science Foundation through the Division of Undergraduate Education has awarded a $34,987 grant to the University of Texas at El Paso, Congressman Reyes, D-El Paso, announced today.

The grant will support a two-day workshop, for computer science principal investigators to expand the scope of their Type 1 projects and write competitive Type 2 proposals for the program entitled: Transforming Undergraduate Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (TUES).  Twelve teams of two investigators are being recruited.  The workshop leaders and guest speakers have experience managing Type 2 proposals.

β€œI am pleased that the National Science Foundation has granted funding for this innovative and useful workshop,” Congressman Reyes said.  β€œIt will create future opportunities that will allow UTEP continued growth as a university and give students an opportunity to learn from cutting edge technology.”

The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science, national health, prosperity, welfare, and secure national defense.
