CONGRESSMAN REYES TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON PROPOSED FEMA FLOOD MAPS WITH OFFICIALS FROM FEMA, INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARY AND WATER COMMISSION, AND CITY OF EL PASO

Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) will hold a public meeting to give residents the opportunity to meet with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the International Boundary and Water Commission, and the City of El Paso to learn about the potential impact of recent changes to the Flood Insurance Rate Maps for El Paso. The public meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at Canutillo High School, 6675 S. Desert Blvd., Canutillo, Texas.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the El Paso community which designates proposed areas for inclusion within a flood zone. These revisions come as part of FEMA's effort to modernize existing maps at a national level.
The public meeting will shed light on the process regarding the implementation of new flood plain maps and the implications for property owners, developers, and land use management. Congressman Reyes has asked FEMA experts to join him and representatives from the International Boundary and Water Commission and the City of El Paso Engineering and Construction Management Department to provide an overview of the new maps. There will be an opportunity for the public to ask specific questions about the maps and the implementation process.
