Doc Hastings The American Farm Bureau and a number of other farmer organizations held a press conference today to discuss the grave impact that the return of the death tax in 2011 would have on American farm families. As a former small business owner, I understand how this tax has hurt family-owned businesses, and have long been an advocate of its permanent repeal.

Private companies wanting to offer health insurance to their employees will now be forced to ask permission from the government, with an alternative of dropping coverage and leaving even more people ...without any insurance. Yet another example of why Congress must repeal this law and replace it with common sense reforms that lower costs and increase choices.

Doc Hastings Unless Congress acts, virtually every American will see their taxes go up on January 1, 2011, including income tax increases, the restoration of the death tax and marriage penalty, and cutting the child tax credit in half. I support lowering taxes to support job creation and economic growth, and like families and smal...l business owners throughout Central Washington understand, know that preventing a trillion dollar tax increase is one of the best ways to grow our economy. The good news is that 31 House Democrats signed a letter to Speaker Pelosi sharing my belief that raising taxes in a down economy is not the best way to create jobs and improve the economy.
