Right now, there is a family sitting at their dining room table, looking over receipts and figuring out how they can cut a few extra dollars from their budget. They may be calculating the cost of a summer vacation or cutting coupons to make the most of their next grocery trip.

But that family is doing what Washington refuses to do: tighten their belt and make the tough decisions to live on what they have. Families don't answer their problems with more spending. But Washington does.

We have recently seen countless examples of the disconnect our Congress has with the people they represent. In the same year of record unemployment and economic decline, this Congress has exploded our deficits, loaded us with health care regulation and increased taxes. They've named post offices while continuing to ignore our near-ten percent unemployment rate. They've prioritized misguided legislation such as Cash for Caulkers instead of listening to the American people.

I hear your frustrations every day -- when I stop by your business, bump into you at the gas station or even on my Facebook page. You are tired of more spending and you have more unemployed friends and family members than ever before. Simply put, Congress' to-do list doesn't match up with yours.

It is time to change the priorities of Washington and introduce a new way of doing business -- a business where the American people drive the agenda in Congress.

House Republicans are on the brink of bringing such an agenda from America. We will listen to Americans and get to work for them right away.

Our new project -- America Speaking Out -- is unprecedented and is finally giving Americans the pen and paper. You will have a seat at the table when it comes to building the agenda.

In stark contrast to the Washington arrogance, House Republicans want to hear what you think should be a part of a new policy agenda. Whether it’s on the economy, spending, family values or national security -- your priorities will be reflected.
On the new online forum, AmericaSpeakingOut.com, you can lend your voice to build a new agenda. Using the best of social media, AmericaSpeakingOut.com will allow you to submit a policy solution, promote your priorities, debate the ideas posted by other Americans, and share the conversation with your friends and neighbors via Facebook and Twitter. It is our hope that AmericaSpeakingOut.com will become the home to an unprecedented online conversation between Americans and their elected representatives.

Now is America’s time to rewrite our to-do list -- a groundbreaking way of changing Washington and giving you what you need.

Many of you have called our offices in search of an answer to the big question- how is Speaker Pelosi forcing the Senate Healthcare Bill through the House?

The House Rules Committee has put together this document which lays out the process. You can read it here.

Thank you for continuing to call, e-mail and write to let us know how you feel about the government takeover of healthcare.

Congressman Jim Jordan encourages support for “Holiday Mail for Heroes,” sponsored by the American Red Cross to send holiday greeting cards to members of the U.S. military. The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes, Inc. will ensure that all cards sent to U.S. service members during the third annual mail drive will arrive safe and in time for the holidays.

Cards should be sent to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes

P.O. Box 5456

Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Cards will be collected until Dec. 7 and sent throughout the U.S. and around the world.

A few rules and restrictions apply. Only cards, not letters, will be accepted. All cards must be signed. Since cards could go to a service member on active duty, their family, or a former service member, all cards must be entitled “Dear Service Member, Family or Veteran.” There is a limit of 15 cards per person or 50 for a school class or business group. Groups of cards should be bundled in single, large envelopes—it is not necessary to include individual envelopes or postage for cards.

Additionally, do not include personal information such as a home or e-mail address, do not use glitter since this can harm wounded recipients, and do not include inserts of any kind because they will be removed during the screening process.

Last night, as the House Committee on Rules considered H.R. 3962, the Pelosi Government-Run Healthcare Bill, only 2 of 216 submitted amendments were accepted. This denies members 72 hours to review last minute changes and only allows four hours of debate today - which are underway on the floor now. You can see here what Democrats have done to hurry this bill into passage. I'll be joining the debate shortly and voting against this trillion dollar takeover of healthcare.

Before Congress ended the week, House Democrats unveiled their newest healthcare proposal - twice the size of their first version but with more bureaucracy and ways to get between a patient and their doctor. You can read the bill here to see what House Democrats think is best for you...

You may have heard me mention HR 3400, Empowering Patients First, the plan I believe has the right solutions. You can read what I believe is responsible reform here.

From what we’ve seen recently, there is a huge difference between what the administration promised when they pushed the stimulus, what they predicted the stimulus would do, what they claim it has done, and what they have actually delivered. Here are just three of the promises, predictions and claims from the White House:

PROMISED: The administration PROMISED that the stimulus would SAVE OR CREATE 1.5 million jobs in 2009 alone.

DELIVERED: In reality, 2.2 million Americans have lost their jobs since Obama took office.  Even if the administration has “saved or created” 150,000 jobs, the economy still has a net loss of over 2 Million jobs.

How can this administration TAKE CREDIT for 150,000 jobs  “saved or created?” Where are these jobs?  Who has them?  The American people have good reason to ask these questions of a president who promised “unprecedented transparency.”

PREDICTED: The administration PREDICTED that the stimulus would keep unemployment from rising above 8%. (Insert Chart 1)

DELIVERED: Last week, the Labor Department released the latest job numbers.  By the end of May 2009, unemployment had spiked to 9.4%, higher than any point since 1983. (Insert Chart 2- Graph actual)

CLAIMED: The administration CLAIMED this week to have “saved or created 150,000 jobs.

DELIVERED: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2.2 million Americans have LOST their jobs since Obama took office.

That amounts to more than just fuzzy math… its fraudulent math.
