CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE SUPPORTS THE RECLAIM THE DREAM RALLY

Washington, Aug 27 - CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE SUPPORTS THE RECLAIM THE DREAM RALLY

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee (TX-18), Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Senior Member of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairwoman of the Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee of the Homeland Security Committee released the following statement today in support of the “Reclaim the Dream Rally” on August 28, 2010:
When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, he sought to remind America of the ‘fierce urgency of now,’ which ushered in an era of sweeping civil rights legislation that fundamentally changed our nation for the better.
Since then, great progress in America has been made, but we still have much work to do to reclaim our dream for jobs and justice.  Against the backdrop of this upcoming weekend’s events in Washington, it is fitting that we rekindle the spirit of that earlier effort.
“I applaud Rev. Sharpton and the many leaders, activists and ordinary hard-working Americans for coming together in the name of peace and prosperity for all Americans. Dr. King was unselfish in his vision and he was not a man who championed separation and division.  He believed in helping all people and creating opportunities for everyone.”

“I take pride in supporting a march rooted in the values of justice, freedom, and democracy, and one that is vested with virtues such as love and charity.  I do believe that the good will override the bad.”
