Veterans

Congressman Lynch believes that one of the most important ways America can show its gratitude to its veterans for their heroic and dedicated service to our nation is by providing them with the finest medical care possible. Accordingly, Congressman Lynch, through his work on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, will continue to work to improve conditions at VA medical centers and ensure that the service members will be able to access the care they need.

In October 2009, Congressman Lynch was proud to support the Veterans health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-81) which authorizes Congress to approve investments in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical care one year in advance, and requires the President to request those funds one year in advance. This will allow the VA to better plan how to deliver the best care possible to our brave veterans, who are facing ever more complicated injuries and medical conditions.

Congressman Lynch also understands that when a person serves in our armed forces, their whole family serves as well and is equally deserving of our gratitude and support. In 2008, he joined with 415 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which not only extended educational benefits to more military personnel but also allows those who have served for at least six years to transfer unused benefits to their spouses and children. In addition, beginning in May 2010, the New GI Bill extended educational benefits to children of fallen U.S. solders who died in the line of duty since September 10, 2001. Congressman Lynch was also proud to cast his vote for passage of the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act in May 2010 which provides respite care, counseling, financial assistance and other support to the families and caregivers of our wounded veterans.
