Recovery

President Obama recently signed a historic $787 billion recovery package to address the deepening economic crisis we face. In February of this year, the economy shed over 600,000 jobs, and Illinois’ unemployment rate rose to 7.9 percent. While not a perfect piece of legislation, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)combines both long and short-term provisions to shore up the economy and reduce the tax burden on millions of middle class Americans. Through targeted investments, this legislation is expected to create or save 3.5 million jobs, including 148,000 in Illinois alone, and more than 9,000 in the 14th District.

The Recovery Act requires the White House to maintain a Web site that details how federal money will be spent.  The state of Illinois has also set up a Web site providing Illinois residents with the state-specific information on the Recovery Act.

My office has created a guidebook to serve as a resource for local governments, community organizations, businesses and individuals seeking funding through the Recovery Act. I encourage you to consult these resources frequently, as they will be updated when federal and state agencies release plans for the distribution of recovery funding.

As always, I stand ready to assist you.  Please feel to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions.  For inquiries related to the Recovery Act, please contact Sue Klinkhamer in my Batavia office at (866) 324-6128, or email me at Recovery.Foster@mail.house.gov.
