Batavia, Oct 7 - Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) is accepting applications from High School Juniors who are interested in participating in the Congressional Page Program.

“The Congressional Page Program is a tremendous learning opportunity for our future leaders,” said Foster.  “Many successful and accomplished people have gotten their start from the Page Program, from Bill Gates to President Lyndon Johnson.”

Foster will nominate one High School Junior to the spring program in Washington, DC, which runs from January 24 through May 27.  Pages attend class in the morning and work in Congress in the evenings.  Pages assist Members of Congress with their legislative duties, deliver correspondence and small packages within the congressional complex, answer phones in the Member cloakrooms and prepare the House Floor for sessions.

Interested High School Juniors must live in the 14th Congressional District of Illinois, and must be either 16 or 17 years of age for the duration of the program. Applicants must have completed 10th grade, but may not have already started the 12th grade, and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.  Applications are due via fax, hand delivery or mail at either Foster’s Dixon or Batavia offices by the close of business on October 27, 2010.

Applications may be downloaded at http://foster.house.gov/UploadedFiles/pageapplication.pdf.  Applicants will be asked to provide their Social Security number, a parental consent form, official transcript of high school grades, a written essay, a resume of extracurricular activities and letters of recommendation.

Members of Congress take turns nominating students for the Congressional Page Program, meaning that the opportunity to nominate a Page is a rare occurrence.  For more information about the Congressional Page Program, please visit http://pageprogram.house.gov/.
