EPA won't ban lead in fishing tackle

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) says he is very pleased the EPA will not try to ban lead from tackle and sinkers used by the nation’s 60 million recreational anglers. The EPA has announced it has rejected a petition filed by environmental groups seeking to ban the manufacturing, processing and distribution of lead in sinkers and tackle. The same group wanted the EPA to ban lead in ammunition, but the federal agency has no jurisdiction over the matter.

LaTourette leads bipartisan effort to suspend GM dealer closures

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) said more than 20 additional lawmakers signed a letter asking the Obama administration to suspend GM dealership closures until a current investigation of dealer terminations is completed. LaTourette said the new letter was signed by several Ohio lawmakers, including U.S. Reps. Betty Sutton, Dennis Kucinich, Marcia Fudge and Marcy Kaptur. Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) has also asked for help for the dealers. Nearly 500 GM dealerships across the country could close on Oct. 31, including Sims Chevrolet of Lyndhurst and one other NE Ohio dealer. LaTourette had led the effort to ask the Administration to suspend the closures. The average dealership employs as many as 50 employees.

Library of Congress exhibit starts tomorrow in Twinsburg

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) will welcome a traveling exhibit from the world-renowned Library of Congress Friday morning at the Twinsburg Public Library. A welcome ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 8, at the library at 10050 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg. The traveling “Gateway to Knowledge” exhibition will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9. There is no cost to visit the exhibit.

Ashtabula County Medical Center gets another ARC grant

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) today announced that Ashtabula County Medical Center (ACMC) will receive a $59,659 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to expand a diabetes and wellness program for lower-income patients. The funding will allow more than 100 patients to receive comprehensive care to manage their diabetes. The total cost of the program is about $119,000 and ACMC will be responsible for about half the cost for the grant’s local match.
