Washington, Nov 30 - Earlier this month, Congressman Bob Latta (R- Bowling Green) was named a Vice-Chairman for the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus for the upcoming 112th Congress.

“I would like to thank Congressman Jeff Miller for this opportunity to serve the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus in the next Congress.  Sportsmen and sportswomen issues are important for me as a public servant.  I look forward to working with all members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus to protect and advance the values, traditions, and rights sportsmen and sportswomen enjoy in the United States,” Latta stated.

“Congressman Latta has worked diligently over the years to make sure sportsmen and the issues that affect us are protected in the halls of Congress, and as we look forward to the 112th Congress, sportsman around the country know that he will continue to serve their interests as Vice-Chair of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus,” said Jeff Crane, President of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation.

As a longtime sportsman committed to wildlife and the outdoors, Congressman Latta has championed several initiatives through legislation to promote and protect the betterment of sportsmen alike.  Congressman Latta inserted an amendment into H.R. 2480, the Truth in Fur Labeling Act that will protect recreational hunters and trappers from burdensome government overregulation.  In 2009, Latta sponsored an amendment and worked with the Senate to ensure that the rights of our sportsmen, first responders and military service members would be protected as the Obama Administration looked to reclassify all “assisted opening” knives as switchblades.

During his tenure in the Ohio General Assembly, Latta introduced the Bald Eagle license plate legislation.  The proceeds from these plates are used to purchase eagle habitat and for eagle preservation throughout Ohio. Latta also sponsored the poaching legislation in Ohio which substantially increases the penalties for the illegal taking of game in the state.  Congressman Latta participates in the annual National Rifle & Pistol Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio and has worked to keep the matches at Camp Perry during his tenure of public service. Congressman Latta also serves as a wildlife education instructor for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife.
