The Truth about the Democrats' Health Care Law

Throughout the health care debate Republicans said time and time again that the Democrats’ plan would increase health care costs and cause millions of people to lose their current coverage. I strongly expressed these concerns and many of you joined Republicans in urging Congressional Democrats and the President to scrap the health care plan. Despite opposition from the majority of the American people, all Republican Members of Congress and even some House Democrats, President Obama and Democrat leadership continued to push their health care plan. They dismissed our concerns and promised:

A Testament to the Impact of Fishing on Coastal Communities

Last week, I joined close to 200 fishermen from South Carolina and thousands of fishermen from all over the East Coast for the United We Fish Rally on Capitol Hill. We gathered to protest red snapper and shallow-water grouper fishing bans that are harming coastal communities. These bans were hastily implemented based on out-of-date research without considering alternative solutions. However, closing fisheries in coastal cities that rely on both the commercial and recreational fishing industry kills jobs throughout the community. In a state like South Carolina where unemployment is 12.6 percent, the economic impact of these bans must be considered and should not be taken lightly.

37th Annual March for Life Reminds Lawmakers of the Sanctity of Life

As a life-long advocate of the pro-life movement, I was proud to support the 37th Annual March for Life last month. For almost four decades the march has served as an opportunity for citizens to rally against the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision in defense of every child’s right to life. I commend participants for taking a stand for the rights of those who cannot defend themselves.
